Direct Page allows you to page another telephone over its built-in speaker, even if the telephone is in use. Direct Page makes the prime line of the paged telephone busy. A tone is heard at both the paging telephone and the paged telephone before the Direct Page is established.
You can page another telephone when the paged telephone has placed the prime line on hard hold.
If Handsfree Answerback is enabled in the Class of Service of the paged telephone and the user has it turned on, the page will automatically establish a handsfree call.
Once Handsfree Answerback is enabled, the user can toggle it on and off by pressing the Microphone or Mute key. The key LED is steadily lit when telephone is idle to indicate that Handsfree Answerback is on.
All phones and attendant consoles can initiate a Direct Page but only those phones with a built-in speaker can receive one. See Feature Availability below for more information.
Phones that support receiving a Direct Page but not Handsfree Answerback (such as the 5302 SIP Phone) cannot reply to the page by lifting the handset. Doing so terminates the page.
Handsfree Answerback is only available on some phones; see Feature Availability below for more information.
You can attach a Line Interface Module to the 5220 IP Phone (Dual Mode), 5312 IP Phone, 5324 IP Phone, 5330/5330e IP Phone, 5340/5340e IP Phone, or 5360 IP Phone, that allows the user to make calls on an analog line. You cannot make a direct page to these phones while the user is on the analog line of the Line Interface Module. Typically, the analog line is only used in the event of a system outage.
The paged telephone must not have a call on soft hold (i.e., transferring a call).
The paged telephone must not be engaged in a handsfree call.
The paged telephone must not be dialing while the Direct Page is received.
A Direct Page cannot be placed on hold.
If the paged telephone is in Do Not Disturb, Direct Page is not allowed. Do Not Disturb cannot be overridden for Direct Page calls. Other call handling features (Call Forward, Callback, Camp-on, and so on) do not apply to Direct Page.
If the paged telephone is busy and has a party on hard hold, the paged telephone must not be engaged in a Conference Call. Conference Calls cannot be overridden for Direct Page calls.
The system does not support direct paging between NetLink SpectraLink Wireless Telephones.
If a user hears reorder (busy) tone when attempting a direct page, there are two possible causes for this symptom:
The IP page group has exceeded the maximum limit of 64 IP devices. Reduce the number of IP-device members to 64 or less.
One or more IP sets have reset during paging setup. Try your paging setup again.
The 5560 can only support audio on the speaker for one side at a time. So, if both the master and slave are paged at the same time, only one of them have their page heard over the speaker. If the slave is paged first, and the speaker is not in use, the slave's page is heard. However, if the master is then paged and the current focus is on the "Left" side, then the master's page is heard and the slave page is not. The slave page will be heard if the focus is changed to "Right" side by pressing the "Right" button.
The system does not support direct paging initiated by external users (EHDU or DISA) over SIP trunks.
A SIP devices can receive a Direct Page but only if supports auto-answer. Without auto-answer, the party originating the page hears nothing instead of the expected ringback until the paged party answers. Upon answer, the originator hears a single ringback tone indicating that they can begin speaking.
On 69xx IP Phones, all types of page—Direct, Group or Loudspeaker—are always received over the handsfree speaker, independent of the Audio Path preference the user has set.
A Direct Page cannot be placed to a set that is active on a call and muted.
See also Off-hook Voice Announce and Handsfree Answerback.
The page group must have one active "In service" telephone of the supported type in the group for the paging to function. If not, it will show “Out of Service".
Initiating or receiving a direct page from/to a non-Prime member of a Multi-device User group, any member of a Multi-device Suite or an IP Device Only DN is not supported.
To allow a handsfree response to a Direct Page, enable Handsfree Answerback Allowed.
To allow a Direct Page while in the busy call processing state with the prime line on hard hold, enable Off-Hook Voice Announce Allowed.
